CBI pleads court to issue non-bailable warrants against Gurung, 21 othersMP |  24 July 2017 |  Kolkata: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday pleaded before the Chief Judge of the City Sessions Court to issue a non-bailable warrant against the chief of the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) Bimal Gurung and 21 others in connection with the Madan Tamang murder case.
Arun Bhagat, CBI's counsel, submitted before the court that framing of charges would not be possible without all the accused in this connection present in the court.
Following the Calcutta high court's direction, the CBI had sent notice to all the accused including Gurung to be present in the City Sessions Court on Monday.
A team comprising four members of CBI along with the help of the local police had served notices to the accused. Notices were pasted outside whom the CBI officers didn't get in their houses.

The Calcutta high court had ordered that the framing of charges in this connection has to be complete by August 17 in the City Sessions Court.

There were total 54 accused in connection with the murder of All India Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang. He was murdered in broad daylight in Darjeeling in May 2010.
Four of the 54 accused had died and two are still absconding. The CBI had served notices to 48 of the remaining accused and 26 of them were present in the City Sessions Court on Monday. But the rest 22 including Gurung and his wife Asha Gurung didn't turn up at the court on Monday.
The hearing in this connection will be held again on Tuesday. According to the political experts, the move has landed the GJM leaders in a fresh trouble.
However, the GJM leaders are now waiting for the hearing scheduled to be held in this connection on Tuesday.
