NBMC Hospital chief 'heckled'
TT, Siliguri, Dec.22: The superintendent of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital was allegedly heckled by some students and junior doctors after he apparently refused to listen to their complaint.
The students and junior doctors had alleged that a second-year MBBS student and his relatives had been heckled by a group of auto-rickshaw drivers on the campus yesterday and they wanted to speak to the superintendent about it.
Sources said around 20 students and junior doctors led by some Trinamul Chhatra Parishad leaders went to principal Samir Ghosh's office this afternoon to stage an agitation demanding removal of auto-rickshaws from the campus.
"The principal and hospital superintendent (Nirmal Bera) were in the office when the agitators entered and started demonstrating when Bera got up to leave. The agitators blocked the door and some of them pushed and shoved Bera and used abusive language," said a source.
Yesterday around 7pm, some intoxicated auto-rickshaw drivers had allegedly heckled a second-year MBBS student and his relatives when they wanted to take a toto instead of an auto-rickshaw.
"We had gone to stage an agitation demanding that autos, rickshaws and other vehicles be removed from the campus," said Avik De,the Darjeelingdistrict secretary of the TMCP who is a junior doctor said. De said they had not used abusive language.
Bera did not take calls.
The demonstration was lifted around 3pm.
Assault charge
A first-year student of diploma in medical lab technology at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital has complained to the principal alleging that three students, including two seniors, heckled him on Wednesday.
He said, yesterday the seniors came to his hostel room and demanded Rs 1,200 as his contribution for the upcoming college fest. They allegedly assaulted him when he refused to pay. Principal Samir Ghosh Roy could not be contacted.
