Trinamool youth activist shot dead for having affair with CPM leader’s daughter
Newsmen, Malda, 26 November: A Trinamool youth activist has been shot dead at Bhagwangola in Malda this evening allegedly by a CPI-M leader for having an affair with his daughter.
The incident took place at Bhagwangola’s Lalgola village early this evening and since then, the accused CPI-M leader, Tapan Chakraborty, has gone hiding. Police suspect that apart from political rivalry, caste consideration might have played a role in the killing as the deceased youth was a non-Brahmin.
Neighbours of Chakraborty, who is a member of CPI-M local committee, have told police that his college student daughter was having an affair with Trinamool youth activist Arabinda Biswas (22), who is a small time vendor.
Recently, Chakraborty came to know of this and subsequently asked Arabinda to severe the relationship with his daughter at once. Instead of falling in line, Arabinda barged into Chakraborty’s residence last week and said that he would marry the girl. He dared the CPI-M leader to do whatever he could.
Subsequent to this, Chakraborty sent all his family members out of the village and summoned Arabinda on the pretext of a negotiation today evening. But as soon as the youth reached there, the CPI-M leader shot him in the face from a close range.
Arabinda died on the spot, and following this Chakraborty fled his residence. Neighbours arrived at the spot hearing gun shot and then called up the police. Apart from a team from Bhagwangola police station, senior police officers from the district headquarters have reached the village.
Trinamool Bhagwangola block committee secretary Shyamal Mondal has demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for absconding CPI-M leader.(Source & Courtesy: newsmen.in)
