The Trinamul Congress on Tuesday announced that it has postponed its programme named Pahar Bachao Aviyan, which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, due to some unavoidable circumstances. The decision to begin a march dubbed the Pahar Bachao Avijan (Save Hill Drive) had been declared earlier.
The Trinamul Congress leadership in the Hills had been planning to carry out the march in every village in the Hills. A Trinamul leader, N B Khawas, said the programme has been postponed but the TMC has plans to carry out another programme.
“We are planning that party activists will go to different villages to open the eyes of the people of the Hills and expose the story of corruption in many construction works, from streams to reconstruction of toilet blocks, during the GJMM regime in the Hills,” Khawas added. Besides, party workers will campaign on the importance of rural polls in the Hills for development, he said, adding, “We will also demand minimum wages for tea workers and inclusion of 11 Gorkha sub-communities for tribal status.”
