Over 100 villagers affected by dengue
SNS | South 24-Parganas | 01 November, 2016: Three persons died and over 100 villagers are suffering from high fever, headache, rash, pain behind the eyes and other symptoms of dengue at a village within Bishnupur police station area in South 24-Parganas.
Arafat Sheikh (45),Nimai Panja (43) and Gitarani Bairagi (42) died of high fever a few days ago. They had been suffering from dengue at Bahadurpur village of Bhandaria gram panchayat within the Bishnupur police station limits.
At least 100 persons in the village are suffering from high fever and some of them have been hospitalised. The villagers alleged they do not know if there was any dengue outbreak in the village, but the block administrative officials and the health department have not taken any steps till now to combat the vector-borne disease.
P B Selim, the district magistrate of South 24-Parganas,met the health department officials on Sunday evening and discussed the actual scenario of the disease. A 10-member district health department team Monday visited the village.
Dr Tarun Roy, Karmadhyaksha for health in zilla parishad, who also visited Bahadurpur village with the team,said that an awareness camp would be started from tomorrow in the village during which precautionary measures would be taken.He said Arafat Sheikh was among the three who died of dengue.
