Mamata's nephew Abhishek discharged from nursing home

IANS | Kolkata | 31 October, 2016: Trinamool Congress's member of parliament and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee was discharged from a city-based nursing home on Monday after a 13-day stay.

The young Trinamool leader was admitted to Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata after he met with an accident when his car hit a crane towing a snag-hit milk van on the Durgapur Expressway at Ratanpur, about six km from Singur in Hooghly district on October 18.

Abhishek suffered an orbital floor fracture below the left eye and other minor injuries, and underwent a three-layered surgery last Tuesday. The clinic said his condition has "substantially improved over the past two days".

"His superficial stitches of lacerated wound over the left cheek were comfortably removed on Sunday while the most important stitches within the eye/orbit area shall be removed in due course after appropriate planning by the medical board," the clinic's Chief Executive Officer P. Tondon said in a bulletin on Monday.

The doctors also allowed Abhishek free movement and normal diet from Monday.

"His eye movement and vision are comparatively better as compared to Friday, 28th October 2016, and the swelling around the injury has subsequently reduced," Tondon said.

A surgery had been done on chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew on October 25 to repair a fracture under the left eye.

Referring to reports of CT scans on Abhishek's skull and face, Belle Vue chief executive officer Pradip Tondon said: "The result was satisfactory and he expressed his desire to be released."

"He has to come to the hospital either on Thursday or Friday for the stitches in the internal portions of the eye to be removed," Tondon added.

Two nurses from the hospital will be at Abhishek's home for medical support.
