GNLF to observe Sixth Schedule Day
HT, 28 Nov 2016, SILIGURI: The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) pressing its demand for the sixth schedule status to Darjeeling hills will observe the Sixth Schedule Accord Day in a very simple manner on December 6 while it plans to intensify its movement from the second week of January.
On Sunday the party announced that its frontal organisations of students, women and ex-servicemen would take out a rally in Darjeeling on December 6. The rally will start from railway station and will go to the district magistrate’s office.
Mahindra Chettri, Gorkha National Liberation Front’s general secretary, said, “The party’s frontal organsiations will send a memorandum to the chief minister through the district magistrate.”
The GNLF (which has been demanding the state government and the Centre to honour the December 6 2005 tri-partite agreement signed between the state government, Centre and Subash Ghisingh, then president of GNLF) wants the GTA formed in 2012 to be scrapped.
It wants the reinstatement of the erstwhile Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) till the time Sixth Schedule agreement is implemented.
