Rain plays spoilsport in N Bengal : one tourist drowned in Jaldhaka
HT, 12 October 2016, SILIGURI: Rain played spoilsport this Durga Puja in North Bengal as reports of damages poured while a 12-year-old tourist drowned in Jaldhaka River in Darjeeling district on Tuesday.
The search for the body of Arman Kabir, the son of Mahiruddin Molla, a resident of Najarnagar village under Haroa police station of North 24-Parganas district, was still on.
Mahiruddin’s family had come to Dooars for a vacation and had gone to Bindu, Jaldhaka on Tuesday.
Sources said Arman had stepped on a boulder by the bank of Jaldhaka River at Bindu to take photographs. He fell into the river and drowned.
Incessant rainfall in the region over the last few days has washed away a portion of the temporary bridge on Rakti River on way to Mirik at Garidhura.
All vehicles have been diverted to Panighatta road to Siliguri.
