Met office predicts sporadic short spells of rain during the Dura Puja

TNN | Oct 6, 2016, KOLKATA:Rain clouds looms large over the festival sky. A cyclonic circulation over the bay is likely to trigger rain in the city and surburs during the Durga puja. Moisture incursion from the bay is pushing up thunder cloud formation fearing possibility of rain.
But the Met office promises that the intensity of the rain will not be sufficient to dampen the spirit of revelers. Nor the amount of rain will be able to damage pandals. The rain will be in short spell and more likely during the day time.
However pockets of Howrah, Hooghly, Midnapore are likely to be affected by heavier rain. Kolkata and the adjoining areas are likely to be spared with only short spells of rain for the next three days.
"We expect short spells of rain mostly during day time till October 9. But that will not be the lingering rain. However there is a possibility the rain to increase its intensity on Ocotober 10 and 11," said GK Das, director (weather) at Regional Meteorological Center Kolkata.
The cyclonic circulation currently positioned over the North West Bay is likely to move towards Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. The Met office is tracking the movement of the system closely to issue another rain prediction during the festivities.
