Man kills wife, self in Siliguri

EOI, SILIGURI, 5 Oct 2016: A couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances this morning at Sukantapara under Chayanpara in Siliguri. Following police investigation, it was found that the husband had strangled his wife before hanging himself. Neighbours said the couple used to have altercations on a regular basis. They have a 10 year-old daughter.

A carpenter by profession, 45 year-old Shital Mondal had four children from his first marriage. He had left his family after meeting Purnima Sarkar, whom he married. The two stayed in various rented places in Siliguri before settling in Sukantapara.

The police said the murder and suicide took place on Tuesday evening and locals discovered the dead bodies this morning. Their daughter used to sleep with the landlord's daughter and return home in the morning.

The daughter was the first to discover the bodies of her parents, said the police.

Replying to police queries, Shital's daughter said her mother had wanted to go to her parents' home since the past few days. But her father wouldn't hear of it and the two had heated arguments on the matter.

A detailed probe into the twin deaths is ongoing, informed police officials.
