Girl kills self after 'rape'
TT, Cooch Behar, Oct. 30: A 14-year-old girl committed suicide last night and her cousin tried to hang herself today after they were allegedly raped by two youths.
The deceased girl had consumed poison and her cousin tried to hang herself this morning. She was rescued and admitted to a rural hospital.
The father of the deceased girl said both the cousins were in Class IX and yesterday they were the only ones at home as the others had gone to see Kali Puja. "My daughter and her cousin were lighting lamps outside the house when two village youths called them out and then raped them in a nearby shrub," the farmer said.
Around 1am, his daughter consumed poison. According to the FIR, this morning, when other girl came to know about her cousin's death, she tried to hang herself.
The family has named the two youths in the complaint. One of them is a tractor driver and the other is a Class XII student. Both have fled the village.
