GJM strike unlawful: Gautam Deb
Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, 26 Sep 2016: State tourism minister Gautam Deb has urged the people of the hills to go against the strike called by the GJM chief on September 28.
"The strike called by the GJM is unacceptable, unreasonable and unlawful. By calling the strike, Bimal Gurung wants to start a war against the hill people and moreover, I feel a strike before the festive season is unacceptable. The hill people want peace, progress and development instead of strikes.
On Tuesday I will proceed to Kalimpong and will stay there on the strike day," he said.
GJM chief Bimal Gurung had given an ultimatum to chief minister Mamata Banerjee to withdraw her statement made recently in Kalimpong by September 27. She had claimed the state government has given Rs 4,000 crore to the GTA since its formation.
If Banerjee fails to retract her statement, the GJM plans to shut down the hills for 12 hours on September 28.
