Girl swept away
TT, Gangtok, Aug. 26: The body of a 10-year-old girl who had gone for swimming in the Kalez river yesterday was recovered today at Lower Mukrang in West Sikkim.
The girl's brother, Ridam Rai, who was also with her, is missing.
Sachita Rai and Ridam had gone for swimming around 2pm yesterday and did not return. A missing complaint was lodged by their parents at Uttarey police station yesterday evening.
The police suspect that the children were swept away when they had gone deeper into the river.
A doctor at the district hospital said: "The reason of the girl's death is asphyxiation - deficient supply of oxygen to the body."
