Breeding centre in Bengal Safari Park

TT, Siliguri, July 5: Senior officials of Bengal Safari Park today said the park would soon have a breeding centre for tigers to increase the big cat population in the state.
Vinod Yadav, the additional principal chief conservator of forest and member secretary of West Bengal Zoo Authority, said two Royal Bengal tigers (male and female) had been brought from Nandan Kanan of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to Alipore Zoo, Calcutta, and would be shifted at the park when an enclosure got ready.
"Breeding of tigers is an important objectives of the forest department because it can help increasing the tiger population in the forests of north Bengal," said Yadav.
"The length of breeding centre will be around 2km and will have four metres high fences," he said.
Yadav said the project would cost Rs 250 crore.
The safari park located on the outskirts of Siliguri is about 8km from here and was inaugurated in January.
