President may visit Darjeeling from July 12 to 15

HT, 16 June 2016, Darjeeling: The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, might visit Darjeeling from July 12 to 15. A preliminary meeting regarding the tentative visit was held at the Raj Bhavan in Darjeeling on Wednesday.
“There are indications that the honourable President of India is likely to visit Darjeeling from July 12 to 15. No other details of the programme are available as of now,” said Darjeeling district magistrate Anurag Srivastava after the Raj Bhavan meeting.
Wednesday’s meeting in Darjeeling was chaired by additional chief secretary to the Governor of Bengal Satish Tiwari and attended by both the district magistrate and the superintendent of police, Darjeeling.
A source said that this is the usual procedure — prior to the confirmation of the President’s visit a preliminary meeting is held to work out the modalities, including place where the President will stay, travel and security arrangements. Based on the reports of the preliminary meeting, the visit is finalised and the itinerary prepared. Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will be accompanying the President.
The last time President Mukherjee visited Darjeeling was on November 10, 2013. He was in town to flag off the 125th year celebrations of St Joseph’s School.
Unconfirmed reports say chief minister Mamata Banerjee may also visit Darjeeling at the time of the President’s visit.
