3 die in car accident
TT, Alipurduar June 29: Three persons died and nine were injured when a jeep skidded off the road and ploughed into a signboard and a tree near Madarihat.
The jeep carrying 12 people, including the driver, was heading to Gangtok from Jaigaon along NH31C.
A police source said: "As the jeep reached near Madarihat around 6.30am, it started raining and the driver lost control. The jeep skidded off the road, banged against a big signboard and then collided with a tree."
The deceased are Fulmaya Prodhan, 60, Gelpo Dukpa, 58, and driver Dipak Chhetry, 42. The injured are admitted to Alipurduar district hospital.
The police have seized the vehicle.
