
Girls do better than boys again

Oindrila Bhadra of Vivekananda Mission School, Joka, stood joint first in the state and is the joint third in the all India ranking in the ICSE. Kavita Desai of Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society also stood joint third in the all India ranking and first in the state among girls in the ISC. In the ISC, in the list of rank holders from the state, there are six girls.Three girls stood joint second in the state while three others stood joint third. In the ICSE four girls stood joint second in the state and one girl secured the third position in the state.
Girls did marginally better than the boys in ICSE with their pass percentage standing at 98.34 from the boys’ pass percentage of 97.84. In the ISC the girls did far better than the boys and achieved a pass percentage of 97.74 per cent as opposed to the boys who achieved a pass percentage of 94.47 percentage. Last year too, the girls had fared better than boys in both class X and class XII. The council's report also indicates that Commerce students too have fared well on a par with students of the science stream. Kavita Desai with a score of 99.25 is a commerce student from Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society, and herself admits she was surprised.
“I expected I would get 95-97% since I am in the commerce stream which scores less than the science stream. However I am happy to see that the commerce stream too is scoring high marks at par with the science subjects.” Meanwhile, West Bengal chief minister and Mamata Banerjee today congratulated the ICSE and ISC candidates of the state following the declaration of their results.
