Kalimpong District to be constituted with additional parts of Duars

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 12 December 2015: People of Kalimpong are now in a joyous mood to hear the good news of creation of Kalimpong district and waiting for the state cabinet meeting to be held on 18th December. Probably it will be a Christmas gift from the government of West Bengal to the people of Kalimpong sub division.

Proposal to create five new districts including Kalimpong from the Darjeeling district will be placed in the next state cabinet meeting, a government source affirmed. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee already had announced the formation of new Districts namely, Basirhat, Sunderbans, Jhargram, Burdwan industrial of the South Bengal. The announcement of Kalimpong district of North Bengal was expected during the Chief Ministers visit to Kalimpong which was postponed due to some obvious reasons, said a TMC source. 

Government has been preparing and making all official formalities for the proposal to be placed in the Cabinet meeting to be held on 18th December. 

It is also learnt that the new district will be larger than the present sub division as some parts of Duars which were supposed to be included in the GTA area are being included in the proposed Kalimpong district. The present area of this sub division with additional area of Western Duars to the North of the NH 17 (previously NH 31 and 31 C) will constitute the Kalimpong district.

It confirms that the present TMC government has positive attitude towards the hill people, opined a TMC leader. 
It is victory of people's aspiration and effort of Dr. Harka Bahadur Chhetri, MLA Kalimpong, said a local resident.

Suman Chakraborti,TNN | Dec 11, 2015,KOLKATA: Proposals to create five new districts to be placed in next state cabinet meeting The state government is preparing on the cabinet papers to place the proposal in the next cabinet meeting to constitute the five new districts - Kalimpong, Basirhat, Sunderbans, Jhargram and Burdwan industrial as announced by chief minister Mamata Banerjee. 

The cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held on December 18 where the proposal is being planned to be placed for approval following which the government will start work on the process to form the district administrations. 

As per plans, Kalimpong district will be curved out from Kalimpong sub division and some parts of Doars. Jhargram sub division will be curved out from West Midnapore to form the separate Jhargram district. 

The Burdwan industrial district will be formed consisting the Asansol industrial zone as well as parts of Burdwan while the Sunderbans that now occupies parts of North and South 24 Parganas will be curved out from totally to form the Sunderbans district. Basirhat sub division will also be bifurcated from North 24 Parganas district to form the separate district.
