11 Dec 2015: A documentary film titled ‘Lohagarh’ was today released in Lohagarh on the inaugural day of the Terai Orange Festival 2015. Produced and directed by Siliguri-based journalist Prashant Acharya, the 13-minute film is based on historical aspects of Lohagarh to promote it as a tourism destination in the world map.
Acharya said according to legend, Lohagarh gets its name from Lohasur, a king who ruled the area some 5,000 years ago. Lohagarh is said to have been blessed by Lord Rama, Sita and Laxman, who visited it during their 14-year exile. It is believed that Lord Rama met Lohasur on his journey from Ayodhya to Janakpur (in Nepal). Natives of Lohagarh still worship Lohasur and offer him prayers on every religious occasion, especially on Poornima or full moon night.
The documentary also highlights the emerald green hills, waterfalls, tea gardens and the perennial Mechi and Manjha rivers along the India-Nepal border as the best attractions of Lohagarh.
The place offers great sightseeing, trekking and adventure opportunities. This hidden paradise is still waiting for the government's development projects to transform it into an ideal tourism destination.
Acharya added Lohagarh is a dream vacation for tourists. The picturesque terraced farmlands add charm to the place. Cradled in the lap of the mountains, Lohagarh is primarily known for its lush green tea garden that produces about 5.5 lakh of exotic tea every year. However, its beauty and grandeur goes much beyond the verdant tea estate.
