Wife kills self after argument over Aamir remark
TNN | Nov 27, 2015, BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A 24-year-old Jabalpur woman committed suicide on Wednesday after having a heated argument with her husband over actor Aamir Khan's recent remark on rising intolerance.

Sonam Pandey, a resident of Kotwali area in Jabalpur, consumed poison after the quarrel. She was the mother of a three-year-old daughter.

Family members took Sonam, who was in a critical condition by then, to hospital around 11.35 pm. She died after a few hours. Doctors confirmed she died of poisoning.

Her husband, Mayank Pandey, who works with an NGO, told the police that their discussion on Aamir's statement on intolerance had led to the argument.

His father, R P Pandey, a retired veterinary surgeon, said his daughter-in law was an Aamir fan and had got annoyed when Mayank ridiculed the actor's statement on intolerance.

The police said they were looking at other angles too. "For now, we're going by the husband's statement," said OP Singh, investigating officer at Kotwali police station. "Poison samples have been collected. Her brother, however, said she was being harassed for dowry. The matter is being investigated."

Joining the debate on intolerance on Monday, Aamir said his wife had asked whether they should move out of the country since she feared for the safety of their child.
