SDF clean sweep in civic polls

TT, Gangtok, Oct. 12: The ruling SDF won all seats at the Gangtok municipality, two nagar panchayats and three municipal councils that voted on October 9.
The results were published today.
The SDF won all 17 wards of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation.
The party bagged all seven wards at Namchi municipal council (including one unopposed), seven in Nayabazaar-Jorethang municipal council and two wards of Gyalshing municipal council. The party had won five other seats in Gyalshing unopposed.
At the nagar panchayats, the SDF won five wards each at Singtam and Rangpo.
At Mangan nagar panchayat, the SDF bagged all five seats uncontested.
"This is a victory of the people who have voted for peace and development. I congratulate the people of Sikkim for the thumping triumph," said the chief minister Pawan Chamling while talking to reporters here this evening.
He said the win had injected new energy into the government to work more for the people.
"The opposition party in Sikkim tried a different propaganda to mislead the people but their whole exercise proved futile as people have voted for us with absolute majority" said Chamling.
SKM president P.S. Golay and party MLAs have thanked all workers for the hard work they put in for the elections. The party thanked the voters for their participation.
In a press release, the party said SKM had always fought for the right of the people and will accept with humility the outcome of the poll.
The SDF is planning to organise a victory rally in Gangtok tomorrow.
