Missing journalist may be alive: CID
TNN, Aug 7, 2015, KOLKATA: Missing journalist Chayan Sarkar may not be dead. The CID team investigating the case feels so after analysing his call details and also the circumstances prior to his "abduction". The team is looking for places in the neighbouring state to find out Sarkar.
"We have found his motorbike, his ID card, his wallet and also a notebook. But all these articles and the bike do not bear any sign of forcible seizure that are generally found when a person is kidnapped," a CID officer said.
However, investigators aren't taking chances. They have got in touch with Sarkar's parents and friends and checked his call details till the last moment before his cellphone went missing. The case assumes significance as the alleged abduction was reported few days after some men owing allegiance to the ruling Trinamool threatened him over his report on admission scam in North Bengal colleges.
Sarkar had gone missing from near Salsabari railway station four days back on Sunday night on his way back home from Alipurduar after attending a human rights rally. The incident sparked huge protests with the opposition Left Front calling a 12-hour bandh in Alipurduar. Sensing the mood, chief minister Mamata Banerjee handed over the investigation to CID.
