Succour eludes Lava villagers
Rajeev Ravidas, TT, Kalimpong, July 7: A number of villages hit by landslides in and around Lava on July 1 are yet to receive relief materials because of damage to roads.
Topden Bhutia, the president of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha's Lava-Lingsay unit, today issued an appeal for succour to the affected people.
"Since the havoc caused in our area is widespread, more help is needed to bring succour to our people. We would appeal to NGOs to reach out and help those who are in dire need. There are some villages where we have not been able to reach. In such places, we are getting in touch with the local fair price shops and asking them to provide food to the affected people," said Bhutia.
