Landslides at 6th Mile snap Chitrey Kalimpong Road link
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 15 July 2015: Following last night's rainfall Kalimpong has been cut off since last night at 6th Mile about 5 km away from Kalimpong town.
A landslide at 6th Mile turning in the Chitrey Kalimpong Road had damaged the road on the night of 30th June and it was being repaired. But the rain of last night snapped the road completely damaging a house.
The 6th mile stream has caused the landslide in the bank of the stream just in the bridge and below the bridge.

People are stranded due to landslide and there is a long queue of stranded vehicles. Traffic movement is completely affected and vehicles towards Siliguri are taking the Lava Gorubathan Road while towards Darjeeling and Sikkim are taking the Munsong Ramphu road.

People are crossing and making their way in the landslide on foot taking all the risk and by transship.
Protection and reconstruction of the road is started. It will take at least a day or two make an alternative route for reconnecting it.
Rain of last night after a break of two days was not very heavy but incessant.
