50 extra seats for NBMCH

The NBMCH authorities received a letter from the West Bengal University of Health Sciences yesterday evening, informing them that 50 additional MBBS seats had been granted to the institution as per an order of the Union ministry of health and family.
"The seats have been granted provisionally for one year and we have been asked to start admitting students to these seats. However, no strictures regarding development of infrastructure and faculty requirement has been mentioned in the letter," Samir Ghosh Roy, the NBMCH principal, said here today.
NBMCH had 100 seats before 50 additional seats were granted provisionally to the institution in 2013.
In April 2014, the seats had been slashed because the NBMCH authorities were unable to fulfil strictures like a 1,000-seat auditorium, two 250-seat lecture theatres and hostels for students and providing adequate number of senior residents who comprise faculty members for the students.
However, the infrastructure is not yet ready.
