Violators of Majithia wage board set up for working journalists will be punished

PR, KalimNews, Kalimpong, 30 May 2015: Union Lobour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya promised to set up a central tripartite Committee at his ministry level to monitor the implementation of recommendations of the Majithia wage board for working journalists and other newspaper employees in the country.
Addressing the 8thPlenary Session of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) on second day of the two day session held at Bhubaneswar on 23-24 May, Union Labour Minister promised to bring comprehensive changes in the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service and Other Miscellaneous Provisions) Act to enhance punishments to the violators. He also assured the journalists gathered there to bring the working journalists of the electronic media under its purview.

A S Nayak, Minister for Health and Information and Public Relations and Urban Development minister Pushpendra Singh Deo several MLAs greeted the 400 journalist-delegates coming from every nook and corner of the country.

S C Jamir,Governor Odisha delivered the valedictory address on the last day of the conference.

In a resolution the IJU demanded that a national law should be enacted for the safety of journalists. It regretted that about 79 journalists were killed in the country in the last two and half decades but very few culprits were caught and sentenced so far. In another resolution, the IJU demanded that Union Government should initiate the process of appointing a new wage board for the working journalists since last wage board was appointed nine years ago and in view of the change wage scenario in the country.
On the last day of the session the following office bearers were elected unanimously. The President S N Sinha and Secretary-General Amar Devulapalli were elected unanimously by the primary members of the union. The elections were conducted by the Central Returning Officer of the IJU, B S Ramakrishna.

New Executive of the IJU was also elected on the day. They are as follows- Mr. Ambati Anjaneyulu (Andhra Pradesh), Mr. Geethartha Pathak (Asom) and Ms. Sabina Indrajit elected as Vice-Presidents. Mr. Y. Narender Reddy (Telangana), Mr. V.B. Rajan (Kerala), Mr. Ratan Luwangaha (Manipur), Mr. Balwinder Singh Jammu (Punjab), Mr. Amar Mohan Prasad (Bihar), Mr. Prabhat Kumar Dash (Odisha) elected as secretaries. Mr. Prem Kumar Bhargava (New Delhi) elected as treasurer. R.Rajendra (Andhra Pradesh), D.Atchuta Rao (Andhra Pradesh), David Laitphlang (Meghalaya), Prabhat Pathak (Asom), P.Bhaskar Reddy (Karnataka),K.Satyanarayana (Telangana),M.A.Majid (Telangana), S.P.Gaur (Utter Pradesh), Sivendra Narayan Singh (Bihar), B.C.Singhal (Uttarakhand), Madhukar (Jharkhand), Sujit Dey (Tripura), Dr.D.Sivasankaran (Tamil Nadu), Jayashree.B(West Bengal) elected as executive committee members.
