Two held with gold bars

SNS, Siliguri, 15 December 2014: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized six kg of gold bars and arrested two persons in Siliguri last evening. According to DRI sources, the six gold bars have been valued at Rs 1, 64,28,000. 
“The gold bars had been brought to Siliguri from Hong Kong via Lasha in Tibet and Bhutan. They were hidden in a bag wrapped with newspapers. Based on a tip-off, DRI sleuths intercepted them from near Mallaguri in Siliguri. The foreign marking--YUEPENG GOLD ~ was inscribed on the bars of 24 carat gold,” the DRI sources said. 
The two persons who were on a motorcycle have been identified as Rupam Ghosh, 40, of Hakim Para in Siliguri and Bijay Bhagat, 33, of Khanpur, Maharashtra. “We are trying to ascertain their modus operndi,” the sources said. 
The DRI had seized 21 gold bars weighing around 3.5 kg and arrested one person from Siliguri on 16 October. Three bars had the foreign marking of 'SUISSE', while the rest of the bars (18) had 'ALETIHAD DUBAI'. The value of the bars was then determined as Rs 1 crore.
