KLO fast
TT, Nov. 10: Around 30 former KLO militants and linkmen today launched a four-day relay hunger strike at Mainaguri, demanding recognition of Rajbangshi language and culture among other things.
The fast is being observed under the banner of the Kamtapur Bhasa O Sanskriti Bachao Committee, formed by former former KLO militants.
"Ahead of the Assembly polls in 2011, Trinamul leaders like Mukul Roy assured us they would look into our demands after the elections. Over three years have passed since then but nothing has been done by the state," Mrinal Roy, a former KLO militant from Dhupguri and president of the new committee, said.
"So, we started a four-day relay hunger strike today to protest the state's lackadaisical attitude. If our demands are not met shortly, we will launch a fast-unto-death agitation across north Bengal."
Mainaguri is 20km from Jalpaiguri.
