Journalists felicitated with Titans of Media Award

EOI, Siliguri, 14 Nov 2014: Twenty journalists from the seven districts of north Bengal were on Friday conferred with the Titans of Media Award at an event organised jointly by the Siliguri Round Table India and Siliguri Journalists’ Club at Montana Vista, Siliguri.

North Bengal Development Department minister Gautam Deb inaugurated the event where eminent historian, litterateur and editor of Sunchari Samachar, Dr Kumar Pradhan, including journalist Biplab Talukdar were remembered for their sterling contributions in the shaping of journalism in the region.

Balai Sutradhar, photo journalist for The Echo of India, was awarded the best photographer’s award from the Siliguri region. A total of five photographers, seven reporters and six electronic media persons were felicitated at the event. Tapan Karmakar bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award while Tarun Das was awarded with the Biplab Talukdhar memorial award.

Kuldeep Chaudhary, former chairman of the Round Table India Siliguri chapter, announced of donating Rs31,000 every years to the Siliguri Journalists’ Club for medical expenses of working journalists. He said the donation is in the name of his father, Mangtu Ram Choudhary, who died a couple of years ago.
