Ex-KLO militants form forum
TT, Siliguri, Nov. 4: Former KLO militants today announced the formation of a new forum and threatened to launch an indefinite hunger-strike if the state government did not accept their main demand of recognition of the Rajbangshi language and culture.
The Kamtapur Bhasa O Sanskriti Bachao Committee was formed by over 130 ex-KLO militants who are out on bail or have been acquitted in cases.
“The erstwhile Left Front government had deceived us by promising rehabilitation. There are 160 to 170 former KLO militants like us who were framed in false cases. Nothing major was done to rehabilitate us as promised by the Left government,” said Mrinal Roy, the president of the committee.
“The Trinamul government has also done noting for us. The new forum will function in completely democratic manner to achieve our demands, mainly the recognition of the Rajbangshi language and culture. We sent a charter of demands to the chief minister today and will wait till November 9. If the government does not respond to our appeal, we will launch a relay hunger strike and maybe, a fast-unto-death,” he said.
