
Elephant kills one
TT, Alipurduar, Nov. 2: One person was killed, one injured and eight houses were damaged when two elephants raided Rabindranagar area last night.
Laxman Oraon, 56, was trampled to death before the animals went back into the forest around 5am.
Foresters said the elephants had strayed out of Nimati and entered Rabindranagar in Kalchini, 35km from here, around midnight.
Villagers saw the animals and started bursting crackers. The elephants damaged houses and one person was injured when he tried to run away and fell. He has been admitted to Latabari Health Centre.
Around 3.30am, the elephants went near Hamiltangunj range office. “Local people and our staff burst crackers and the animals went towards Nimati,” said Himangshu Roy, range officer, Hamiltangunj.
