JU students to continue class boycott

SNS, Kolkata, 28 October2014: The students of Jadavpur university will continue their class boycott until they come to a decision through the referendum which will be organised on 30 and 31 October pressing for the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation.
In the referendum students would be asked whether the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abhijit Chakraborty should resign or not.
Such a referendum will however not have any official validity but will build up pressure on the Vice-Chancellor to put in his papers if the students vote against him.
Earlier this year, students of the Presidency University had also conducted a referendum on whether Trinamul Congress MP and professor Sugata Bose should continue as chairperson of the elite institute's mentor group after joining politics.
The university’s students have been protesting for over a month against the V-C for calling the police inside the campus during a gherao seeking a fresh probe panel on a student molestation case.
Although the student unions have not withdrawn their class boycott call, students are attending some of their classes, but they are abstaining from officially recording their attendance.
