Lama plans document on Indo-Nepal treaty

SNS, Kurseong, 23 September: Noted academic and the founder of the non-political organization, Darjeeling Dooars United Development Forum (DDUDF), Mahendra P Lama, has said that he, in association with different individuals and personalities, is preparing a ‘review document’ of the Indo-Nepal treaty, which he plans to submitted to the central government.
Mr Lama said here recently that such a document “aims to seek answers to the long-pending demand for a separate state” in Darjeeling.
“People must think clearly and have the knowledge of what they want or why they are demanding things. Whether they need citizenship, identity or nationality must be cleared so that onecan move ahead accordingly.
We must go forward by realizing what is good for us, whether to place ourselves in or outside the treaty,” he said.
He added that he has appealed to all individuals, personalities and leaders to come forward, by giving up their pride and ego, with their respective views and policies to be included in the ‘important document.’
According to him, such a document is being prepared by representatives of the Bhartiya Gorkha Parisangh and others.
