Arrest plea by girl family
TT, Siliguri, Sept. 25:The father of the girl who was found dead on the railway tracks in Jalpaiguri district earlier this month urged the superintendent of railway police today to arrest four absconding persons he has alleged murdered his daughter.
The girl went missing from a meeting called by a Trinamul leader on September 1. The next day, her body was found on the train tracks.
The girl’s father had filed a complaint against Chandrakanta Roy, a former Trinamul councillor and a local leader, and 12 others.
The GRP is investigating the case and has arrested nine persons, including a minor student. Four, including Chandrakanta, are absconding.
“I met the SRP today and requested him to arrest Chandrakanta Roy and three others. I also asked him about the progress of the investigation. He assured me that the inquiry was on and that it would take some time for them to collect all information. All those named by me in the complaint would be arrested,” said the girl’s father.
“We have filed a suit at Calcutta High Court seeking an impartial investigation as we are not banking on the ongoing inquiry. If required, we will meet the governor and seek his intervention,” he said.
A couple of days back, north Bengal development minister Gautam Deb and Jalpaiguri district president Sourav Chakraborty had visited the girl’s house and told the family members they could make arrangements so that the girl’s family could meet the chief minister or talk to her.
Today, the girl’s father said: “We don’t think there would be much progress if we meet the chief minister. Some Trinamul leaders and workers are behind my daughter’s murder and so far nothing much has been done by the investigators.”
