Unlawful activities surging in Siliguri hotels
EOI, Siliguri, 14 Jul 2014: Some hotels in Siliguri have become safe havens for anti-social elements and secure places to carry on sexual rackets.
Underworld operatives plan and execute all sorts of activities including theft, dacoity and murder making hotel rooms their operational headquarters.
Young girls from closed tea gardens are easy prey to pimps who lure them on the pretext of good job offers, but eventually force them into prostitution. Besides, several school and college-going girls of town and its environs are also known to willingly work as part-time call girls just to satiate their increasingly expensive lifestyle. Police conduct frequent raids and have arrested the girls along with their clientele, but the flesh trade shows no signs of ebbing and is on the rise instead.
Police sources have informed leaders and members of militant organizations also use hotels in Siliguri as their hideouts.
One of the sources said miscreants from Nepal simply cross the Mechi River into India after committing a crime and Indian offenders also do likewise. This has become a common practice, he added.
Siliguri police commissioner Jag Mohan said. “The police are on high alert and conduct regular raids on hotels and singing bars and always keep a watchful eye over them.”
