TMC MP Tapas Pal’s Wife Apologises for the Term “Rape” her Husband Used

Tapas PalTIR, 1 July 2014, Kolkata/ New Delhi: Following the row that was triggered over the controversial remarks by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP, Tapas Pal, his wife apologized in front of the media, on his behalf.
Tapas Pal, allegedly threatened to get the CPIM Women raped as a political retribution. His wife, Nandini Pal said that her husband shouldn’t have used the word “Rape”
“I apologise to the people of the country for the comments made. The comments need to seen in the context, but he shouldn’t have used the term ‘rape’,” Nandini said.
Tapas Pal further said that the TMC workers would be sent to rape women from the Opposition. Tapas Pal’s remarks have sparked a great controversy and massive outrage across the party lines.
Demands for his resignation have grown louder and the TMC is forced to act. The party has asked Tapas Pal to give an explanation for his remarks within 48 hours. TMC has said in an official statement that it doesn’t endorse Tapas Pal’s comments.
Tapas Pal, in his defence, claims that the Opposition is making all attempts to defame him. In a complete damage control mode, Tapas Pal justified his comments and said he never said rape, he said raid instead. “I said they should raid all the people and places, including women and old,” Tapas Pal added.
Tapas Pal had earlier been quoted as saying that if the CPM tries to kill and intimidate the TMC workers, he would not spare them. “I will ask our boys to go and rape CPM women if necessary,” said Tapas Pal.
TMC has distanced itself from Tapas Pal’s Comment, terming it “insensitive”.
TMC leader Derek O’Brien said that the incident has happened in May while the tape has surfaced of late. According to Brien, it hardly matters as to when the comments were made and the TMC is clear to not endorse it. “It is an insensitive statement,” added Derek O’Brien.
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo, Mamata Banerjee is under tremendous pressure to sack Tapas Pal.
Former IPS Officer Kiran Bedi, during a media interview suggested that Mamata Banerjee must suspend and throw him out. ”Why hasn’t the police yet registered a case against him? The police can take suo motu action and register a case against him immediately. Mamata should break her silence and throw this man out. Insensitive comments like these should be stopped by politicians,” said Bedi.
BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy also criticised the gross remarks by Tapas Pal, terming them as bizarre and said “It is unthinkable that a person like him would say something like this. The question needs to be asked to Mamata Banerjee if she would endorse such statements and what action would be taken.”
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat also called for action against Pal. “This is completely unacceptable, the Lok Sabha Speaker must take suo motu note of the remark. Why is the Bengal CM who is so vocal on all issues silent on this,” she asked.
