Sikkim BJP lauds party prez decision

SNS, Gangtok, 9 July:The state BJP unit has welcomed the decision of the party high command to elect Amit Shah as the new party president.
“As former president Rajnath Singh has been given the responsibility to handle the home ministry following his massive victory; we welcome the decision of the party and its adherence to the one-man-one-post ideology,” the general secretary of the state Bharatiya Janata Party, GD Agarwal, said today.
“Meanwhile, we are focusing on expanding our base in Sikkim and working on making more members across the state,” the state organization secretary of the BJP, Panchanan Rout, said.
He, too welcomed the party’s decision to elect the new president.
“We contested in 13 of the 32 seats in the elections and we will be contesting the by-election in Rangrang Yangyang as well, and we are meeting people of the constituency in this regard,” he told a press conference here.
“Our objective at present is to work for strengthening the party’s potential in the state. The BJP has also been focusing more on border states, Sikkim being one of them, for their development,” he said.
The party claimed a membership drive that they started on July 6 in the state along with the rest of the country is going on. The party further said that it is in talks with the Opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).
However, leaders chose not to comment more when asked whether the SKM will support the BJP in the upcoming by-election.
The party general secretary, Mr Agarwal, said “everything is possible in politics, and the door is open for whoever comes in.”
