Kurseong residents hopeful of seeing end to water scarcity

EOI, Kurseong, 19 July 2014: Residents of Kurseong have welcomed the announcements made by Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee in Darjeeling of resolving the drinking water problem of town.
Speaking at a programme at Chowrasta Thursday, Banerjee announced various government projects for the overall development of the Darjeeling hills. At the same time, she also said several important measures have been initiated by the state government to resolve the drinking water problem. The state government has pumped in crores of rupees into the Balasun Water Project, which is expected to settle the water scarcity issue that has long been plaguing Darjeeling. Very soon, the state government will also take similar initiatives to resolve Kurseong’s drinking water problems.
Kurseong resident Sunil Sharma said despite the town administration putting in a lot of effort to supply drinking water on a regular basis, the town scarcely has adequate water for all. A major water project such as the Balasun one is also needed for Kurseong. The chief minister’s announcement is an important one and has brought new hope to Kurseong residents, added Sharma.
Another resident named Prashant Rai said the Kurseong region is blessed with perennial water sources and all that is required is good management from the part of the administration. Banerjee’s announcement should prompt those concerned to at least take steps in the right direction, remarked Rai.
