Odisha labourers injured in Sikkim attack

SNS, Namchi, 17 June 2014: In an incident that sent shockwaves across the state, labourers working at a ropeway project site in Namchi were mercilessly attacked on Sunday evening, leaving them seriously injured.
The labourers had been working at the Damodar Ropeway & Infra Limited site at the Rock Garden, near Chaam Gaon, when a group of masked persons entered the room they had been sleeping in and started thrashing them up.
While no one has been arrested in this connection so far, police said they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack. Damodar Ropeway & Infra Limited is a Kolkata-based company. Company officials said they contacted Namchi Police and informed them of the incident. Police, along with company officials, later reached the spot, where they were horrified to find that many of the attacked laborers were writhing in pain, while blood flowed out profusely. They were immediately taken to the District Hospital, Namchi. Among the injured are Biranche Pradhan, Bidesh Pradhan and Mithun Malik of Ashatarang village, Santune Behara, Prakash Kandey and Bhappi Kandhi of Kakatpur village, Santanu Das and Rajesh Behera of Jaralingay village, and Indrajeet Golla of Ramachandra Pura village, all in Odisha state.
