Kalchini lass Bhawani Munda receives top sports award

Pradip Lama, EOI, Kalchini, 17 June 2014: Bhawani Munda, a young girl from Kalchini, has made Dooars proud by receiving the L’Oreal Paris Femina Women’s Award (Sports category) recently at an event held in Mumbai. Munda was presented the award by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar for her achievement in the game of football. Although there was not much hype created by the media about her achievement, Munda was the only women from West Bengal to receive the award.

In order to credit her achievement, the Kalchini Panchayat Committee today felicitated Munda and presented her a citation as well as Rs.5,000 cash prize. The felicitation function held at the are panchayat bhavan had the presence of Kalchini BDO Chandra Sen Khati committee chairman Nirmal Majhi, Kalchini Congress committee chairman Mohan Sharma and Kalchini Panchayat Committee’s working president Mohammed Abbas along with other members.  Khati presented the citation and the cash reward to Munda and promised her assistance in future. Meanwhile, Mohan Sharma has also pledged to support Munda and will provide her a financial assistance of Rs.11,001.

The leaders have also promised to help Munda meet the district administration for further assistance. After the felicitation function, Munda said if she receives an invitation from Italy for football coaching the administration has pledged to provide all the support she needs. Further, area MLA Wilson Chamramari has also vouched to provide support to Munda through the state government. Munda has a dream to form a team named Dooars 11 and train talented young girls from the region. However, due to her poor financial condition she has not been able to fulfill her dream and has a small tea shop in Kalchini as a means to earn her daily living. She however hopes to fulfill her dream one day by improving her game and representing the country.
