K. Chandrasekhar Rao Sworn-in as the First CM of Telangana
TIR, 2 June 2014, Hyderabad: At the stroke of the midnight of 2nd June 2014, Telangana, the 29th State of India is born. The state, comprising ten districts broke into celebrations at midnight, as the Government of India had fixed June 2 as the appointed date for the new state, which it created by passing a Bill in Parliament in February.
The 63-year-old K Chandrasekar Rao, who has led the movement for a separate state of Telangana ever since 2001, took oath as the new Chief Minister of the state on Monday morning.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti has won both, the Assembly as well as the Parliamentary Elections in the state held on 30th April. Rao-led TRS won 63 Assembly seats and 11 Lok Sabha seats by decimating the Congress.
A 17 member KCR Cabinet will rule the new state of Telangana from Monday.
As soon as Rao was sworn in as the chief minister of Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to convey his good wishes to Rao and Telangana. PM Modi gave a message of good hope for the state’s development journey and further assured all the needed support from the government at the Centre. Take a look at what did the prime minister tweet.
Just before Rao took his oath as the Chief Minister in a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad, ESL Narasimhan was sworn in as the Governor of both Telangana and the residuary Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana and Seemandhra would share a Governor and Hyderabad as a common capital for 10 years. Andhra Pradesh will have to build a separate capital within 10 years. The Governor of Telangana will administer Hyderabad till the AP government moves to a new capital.
Celebrations with fireworks have been going on in Hyderabad and other parts of the new state ever since midnight. There have been victory rallies and dazzling firework displays and sweets are being distributed. Around 10.15am on Monday, Rao will unfurl the national flag at the Parade grounds in Secunderabad and will make his first address. At noon, Rao will visit the Telangana state secretariat. C Block, which was occupied by the chief ministers of undivided Andhra Pradesh, will be his office.
The other half of the Secretariat has been allotted to Chandrababu Naidu, who will take over as the chief minister of the Seemandhra, later this week.
It is anticipated that Rao would formally take charge of the office at 12:52pm today and the first cabinet meeting is likely to follow, at which the chief minister will approve Telangana’s new logo – one with the Kakatiya Gate and Charminar on it.
Files relating to loan waivers and compensation to those who died in the five-decade struggle for Telangana are likely to be taken up later.
