Narendra Modi's Cabinet reveals top priorities, each ministry to prepare a 100 day agenda

Mehernaz Patel, DNA Webdesk, 29 May 2014, Mumbai : On Thursday, the Narendra Modi cabinet tentatively set 10 top priorities on their agenda, following the second Cabinet meet in the last 48 hours. According to sources, they are highly focussed on development and are also geared to recreate Modi's popularity in Gujarat – as an efficient and development focused leader – on a national scale.
Sources reveal that the priorities as being centered around the following:
* Greater focus on economy and infrastructure ministries
* People-oriented system to be put into in place
* A return to better inter-ministerial coordination
* To restore the confidence of bureaucrats that they won't be hauled up later for taking crucial decisions.
* Greater focus on education and health
* Looking to gear up the entire government machinery to project the new leadership's mandate
* E-auction to be promoted in tendering and other government work

These priorities also include long term goals like transparency in government machinery and a stable and sustainable government.
Another priority, and one which Modi made highly effective use of during the elections, is the use of technology and social media to maximise public interaction. There are also speculations that the PM was looking at restructuring Coal India, the state controlled mining powerhouse.
M Venkaiah Naidu, union minister of urban development and parliamentary affairs, has also said that PM Modi has asked ministers to focus on governance, delivery and implementation and resolve all pending issues urgently, and that Modi has directed the ministers heading each minitry to prepare an agenda for the first 100 days.
The directives were given by Modi at a Cabinet meeting keeping in mind his10-point vision which includes increasing investment, completing infrastructure projects in time-bound manner and exploiting the natural resources to the country's benefit.
While focussing on these aspects, the government will take forward on priority basis the issues pending from the previous UPA-II led government.
