Key Challenges Before each Ministry of Modi Government
Well, many political pundits have said that Modi’s win is a combination of Modi Wave plus an anti-Congress wave, as frustration levels among the public were high for anti-incumbency and non performance. Going by this, expectations are bound to be sky high.
The election campaign is over and there is no scope for rabblerousing speeches. It is time to get down to serious business and deliver. So what are the key challenges before Modi? Let’s list them down for the key ministries:
Finance Ministry
- Containing inflation is undoubtedly the prime priority which will eventually help stabilize the economy and the very much volatile currency.
- As promised in the BJP manifesto, tax Laws need to be simplified.
The solutions for above two points must be incorporated in the Union budget, which we may expect anytime soon in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
Defence Ministry
- Several Major accidents in the navy
- Delay in Procurement of Arms and Ammunition
Uplifting and boosting the morale of the several security wings would be the primary task followed by reforms, whenever and wherever needed.
Home Ministry
- Curbing Terrorism
- Tackling the Naxal Violence
- Improve and Enhance the Centre-State Relations
The Home Ministry has been facing a major embarrassment of late, primarily due to the above issues. Needed and Stringent steps must be taken to maintain a state of peace and harmony.
Foreign Affairs
- Strengthening relations with the neighbouring countries has been a major task.
- Striking a fine balance between both East and West is another much needed task.
- Tackling the Conflict of Interest with countries like China, Africa, and South East Asian Countries
An invitation to the SAARC heads of the states is being hailed as a masterstroke by Narendra Modi. However, the above needs to be tackled with utmost care and a precise strategy.
Agriculture
- Reforms in Agriculture are the need of the hour – they have been long pending under the previous leaders.
- The Agriculture sector needs a complete revamp not only through reforms, but also through policy changes, new techniques, and technology.
Ministry of Environment and Forest
- The Ministry needs to be made more transparent and proactive.
- Scams, allegations of serious corruption and not taking a decision on clearing major projects have hit the image of the ministry very badly.
Ministry of Railways | Civil and Aviation | Highways
- While, Railways face massive shortage of funds and most of its modernisation and expansion works are as good as not progressing; Civil Aviation is no better, with Air India continuing to bleed.
- Inflow of Funds, Better facilities, along with needed reforms is vital in the above two ministries.
- Most Highway and related infrastructure projects have been halted
Ministry of Rural Development
- Some major and crucial UPA schemes are being handled by this ministry.
- Implementation of these schemes with reforms is needed, needs to be made efficient.
