37 companies of CRPF deployed in Darjeeling Lok Sabha centre
Ujjal Bhattacharyya, EOI, Siliguri, 14 April 2014: Thirty-seven companies of the Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed to ensure safety throughout Darjeeling district during the parliamentary elections. Sources also said a team of state police officials will be placed on surveillance at each booth on the day of the election.
Darjeeling district magistrate and district election officer Punit Yadav said eight of the 37 CRPF companies have already started servicing in various regions while another 22 will be assigned at the Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong Vidhan Sabha centres and the regions under Kharibari, Naxalbari and Phansidewa police stations. The remaining seven companies will be given the charge of areas under the Siliguri police commissionerate, added Yadav.
He further said 1,633 booths will set up across the Darjeeling Lok Sabha centre this year. Siliguri police commissioner Jag Mohan added a few companies of the CRPF have already arrived in Siliguri.
