
Election Commission extends voting time from 7 am to 6 pm
theindianrepublic,15 March 2014, New Delhi: On Friday, the Election Commission decided to increase the voting time for the upcoming general elections. The time has been extended by an hour. The new schedule announced by the election commission said that voting will take place for 11 hours wherein it will start from 7 in the morning and go on till 6 in the evening compared to standard existing time of morning 7 till evening 5.
According to the commission, decision was taken with a view to give more time to the voters and boost participation of voters.
However, voting in north eastern states and naxal-affected areas will close early, the commission clarified.
President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday issued notification for Lok Sabha polls to be conducted in the first phase of elections on April 7 in five constituencies of Assam and one in Tripura.
Now, polling for five seats in Assam namely Kaliabor, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh and Tripura (West) constituency will be held on April 7.
On March 15, the notification will be issued for 93 constituencies spread across 18 states that will go to polls on April 9 and 10.
