Chamling says he is preparing his successor
SNS, Namchi, 27 March 2014: Stating that he is the last pro-poor chief minister and that Sikkim will never get a leader like him in the future, CM Pawan Chamling today said he is ‘preparing’ his ‘own successor.’
Brushing aside the idea of ‘parivartan’ as propagated by the Opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) in the state, Mr Chamling said he will have his “own alternative” in the next five years.
If his party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), fares well in the Assembly elections, Mr Chamling will lead the government for a record fifth straight term.
“I am preparing my successor from among the educated youths. They should actively take part in politics, because ours is a pro-youth party,” the SDF president said, addressing an election meeting at Temi Bazaar under the Temi Namphing Constituency in South Sikkim. Stating that the SDF has always empowered youths and never misguided them, Mr Chamling said: “I want to hand over the future of Sikkim to them.”
Accusing the opposition parties of misleading the ‘innocent people’ of Sikkim, Mr Chamling said they don’t have any policies and programme for the welfare of the people.
He also urged the people assembled there to have interest in politics so that they remain aware, well-informed and ever vigilant against “people with wrong and sinful intentions who are out to ruin our beautiful land.”
Reaching out to the business community, Mr Chamling assured them that his next government will set up a business community welfare board. He also appealed to businessmen to contribute to Sikkim’s politics and said his party has never harassed or threatened them. The CM also promised to develop Temi-Tarku into a prominent tourist destination. Local candidate for the Assembly polls, GMGurung also vowed to complete all development works in the constituency in the next SDF government.
