GJMM pitches for Gorkhaland

SNS, Kurseong, 19 February : Apparently buoyed by the passing of Telangana Bill in the Lok Sabha, GJMM looks set to pitch for Gorkhaland movement, but significantly, away from the Hills and in far-off places, particularly in Delhi. The move is seen by the observers as one meant to avoid confrontation with the state government which is strongly poised to curb  any disruptive stir in the name of statehood. 

Talking to reporters in Kurseong, GJMM vice president and GTA chairman, Pradip Pradhan said the party leadership would meet in Kurseong tomorrow to deliberate on the mode of the stir the party would take up in the post Telangana Bill passage scenario.    

He reiterated the party's stance that a state can be bifurcated to carve out a new one by the Centre without taking the concerned state government on board. "Gorkhaland can be carved out of Bengal by the Centre similarly," he said. Invoking Mr L K Advani the GJMM leader said the BJP veteran had made things clear to them way back in 2008. "He told us about a certain clause by which the Centre can divide a state without going for the convention of taking the state government on board," he said.   

Mr Pradhan said the party is now mulling agitation across the country. "We would stage demonstration in 22 states where the party has a presence," he said, adding that the party president along with all the 45 elected GTA members would participate in tomorrow's meeting to firm up strategy on the revival of the statehood movement.
