Chamling doles out ‘benefits’ to poor...people asked to “collect their benefits”

SNS, Gangtok, 4 February 2014:Chief Minister Mr Pawan Kumar Chamling today distributed tokens to several beneficiaries with which they can avail of the various benefits and facilities the state will be giving away.
At the Janata Mela-2014 organised for the South District at Assangthang Helipad in Namchi today, the people were asked to “collect their benefits” from their respective Gram Vikas Kendras (GVK). The Mela was organised by the Rural Management and Development Department.
At the fair, Mr Chamling said the state government’s next step would be to add two more floors to houses built under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission (CMRHM).
He said those houses would get one floor after the elections, while another one will be added later, thus making the CMRHM houses complete three-storied buildings.
Another step the government would be taking is to provide medical advance of Rs 2 lakh to people living below poverty line (BPL). According to the CM, such people will have to produce genuine documents to avail of the facility.
“The initial aim of the present government was to uplift the poorer section of the society, while it dedicated all of its work towards strengthening the rural areas and rural people,” Mr Chamling told the gathering.
“Unlike the predecessors, the present government has brought about a democratic environment where the people are their own masters and the various self-reliant schemes rolled out by the government and utilised by the public only goes to support this,” he added. Those who could not get the tokens today have been asked to collect them from their respective GVKs within 15 days.
The Chief Minister further assured people whose names were not included in the beneficiary list that he would look into the matter and do the needful.
