Visitors to be welcomed in police stations with glasses of water: Commissioner

Ujjal Bhattacharya, EOI, Siliguri, 6 Jan: Following instructions by Siliguri Commissioner Jag Mohan, a new practice of offering a glass of water to visitors at every police station under the Siliguri police commissionerate has been introduced beginning today. According to the directive, any person visiting police stations to lodge complaints or with any other purpose will be welcomed with a glass of drinking water at the outset.
This practice will be seen for the first time in North Bengal. Police sources said all stations will be supplied with fresh mineral water regularly for the purpose. Officials as well as the general public are happy with the new way of welcoming introduced by the CP.
Some people noted the very thought of visiting a police station creates a sense of anxiety, but the gesture by lady constables offering glasses of water and a place to sit has prompted them to change their mindset.
CP Jag Mohan said, “The step is taken as a glass of water will help in calming a person’s mind and body.” He said all police stations under the commissionerate have been directed to follow the practice, adding there is a psychological reason behind the gesture.
