KPP to table 11 demands before Mamata
EOI, Jalpaiguri, 13 January 2014: The Kamatapur People’s Party is looking to approach chief minister Mamata Banerjee for promoting the educational standards of members of the community when she visits North Bengal.
Banerjee is scheduled to pay a visit to the region on January 20 when she inaugurates the newly-built mini-secretariat.
Meanwhile, political observers feel the KLO is emulating the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha in trying to come to a mutual settlement with the state government and at the same time fulfilling its demands.
The KLO has decided to table 11 demands to the state government including the recognition of the Kamatapuri language and introduction of the language as a medium for primary education among others.
KPP leader Pranesh Ishor today expressed his doubt on the demand for statehood getting fulfilled. Discussions for securing educational and other benefits will be more prudent and fruitful, he observed.
The KPP leader further said they could give up their agitation if the state government prioritises their issues in the same manner it has addressed the issues of the hills.
